Finish The Settlers III Remake: Gold Edition

Implement faithful Gold Edition behavior through the original base game, Mission CD, and Amazons. Deliver browser plus true native macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android applications; original campaigns and presentation; authoritative cross-platform multiplayer; and reusable Stacks signing/store automation. Releases are free, without ads or in-app purchases. Bundled original content requires recorded redistribution evidence.

Architecture

One deterministic TypeScript simulation, physical people/goods/logistics, shared stx controls, ts-css styles, and Craft-owned native render surfaces. Metal on Apple targets, Vulkan on other native targets. Native gameplay and HUD do not require a WebView. Browser and native rendering share scene decisions. Online servers validate commands and filter hidden state. Versioned complete saves and deterministic replays preserve compatibility explicitly. HomeOS reuse follows executed graphics/ABI evidence and does not gate supported game platforms.

Epics

Delivery gates

  • M0: published verified issue graph and tested upstream foundation fixes installed downstream.
  • M1: physical sustainable Roman economy.
  • M2: complete warfare, religion, and civilizations.
  • M3: ships, same-rules AI, skirmish, editor, and original campaigns.
  • M4: original presentation, complete saves, and measured true native parity.
  • M5: authoritative multiplayer and reusable signed/store releases.
  • M6: complete fidelity, rights, performance, security, installation, and distribution qualification.

Working rules

Fix defects at their owning source, retain reproductions there, run the repository's existing patch release, verify the published artifacts, update/release Stacks when affected, then install into this game. Preserve unrelated work through isolated worktrees. Normal pushes to origin/main as Chris, no attribution trailers, no force push. Production secrets are encrypted through buddy env into .env.production; decryption keys remain outside Git and client artifacts.

The roadmap has 107 implementation slots and 12 epics plus this index. Existing matching issues are reused. Durable spec, issue drafts, publishing state, and dependency definitions live under docs/roadmap. No issue is complete solely because this tracking graph exists.

The source-first web AI corrections through #202 are now qualified on main at b0d1df3. Exact CI 40242723177 succeeded; its original artifact 12618051922 matches SHA256 a5a9df03b47549820dcac09d0c7defcfb69649b48b63a0da9c82cd415fc9e4fc, with every CRC/all 385 steps/no error collections verified.

All four sampled ordinary two-policy matches now finish: seeds 1/5/2/3 at ticks 31801/73581/184761/139741. Complete traces have no failed commands and clean conservation. The charcoal correction uses the existing real recipe and demand; it changes no rules, starting stock, physics, speeds or battle deadlines. The source and rejected-candidate evidence are retained in the receipt. The qualified framework cohort remains Stacks 0.75.311 / STX 0.2.691 / Craft 0.0.341 / Pantry 0.11.127 / Bun 1.4.4.

This advances the browser engineering prototype. Keeping this broader issue open. A human-input skirmish victory, all-seed behavior, broader configuration, native presentation and original Gold Edition agreement remain unproven. Work continues on #203 after normal browser input exposed a woodcutter suggestion with no reachable trees despite other known usable sites. Seed 1 has no initially known granite, so its quarry fallback needs an honest warning rather than an invented productive-site claim.

Browser qualification advanced with #203, now closed after cc702ac8 and exact main CI40244633903. All318unit tests and385browser steps pass. The original19651byte artifact12618617732 matches SHA256 46b79dfa1daa049459610a92c9ee7f6836cdb17b8d32b434a3d224fd0d23bdfe, all CRCs/steps/error collections verified.

Keyboard construction now prefers known reachable harvest sites, retaining legal fallback and an honest absent-resource warning. Native input confirms the suggestion and actual log production. Receipt. Simulation rules/AI/locks are unchanged from the qualified charcoal publication; its four completed sampled AI matches remain source-pinned evidence, not a new all-seed claim.

The next actual human-playability frontier is #204, with an ordinary four-site reproduction of all hammers stranded in idle construction crew. Lowering the cap leaves the tools unavailable for a geologist. The pinned reference has periodic surplus jobless-crew conversion and actual tool drops; a versioned source correction must preserve old saves and real accounting. The manual match ended in defeat after this shortage. No human victory, full sustainable game, native UI or original Gold parity has been proved. Keeping this broader issue open.

Staffing controls can now return idle construction workers and their tools to carrying. Ground drops also preserve ownership when another player's pile is nearby. These fixes are covered by #204 and #205.

329 unit tests and 385 browser steps passed, including save/reload. CI and validation details.

The player test got tools and storage working, but lost the rival match. Testing the original tutorial map then exposed a separate staffing stall: unreachable trained workers kept blocking reachable carriers. That is tracked in #206.

Fixed the original-map staffing stall in #206. Opening construction, timber production and save/reload now work through normal controls.

Implementation, passing CI and validation details. Crew limits, goods accounting and older save rules are preserved.

Full tutorial objectives, the remaining game systems and native presentation still need work.

The browser now uses original geologist survey signs and keeps atlas coordinates paired with the correct bitmap across updates. #207 passes 349 unit tests, 385 browser checks and CI.

Normal tutorial play also reproduced the storage-center inspection problem tracked in #208. The supplied remake confirms that selection should use the full protected area while movement keeps its separate blocking geometry. Full web fidelity and native gameplay remain unfinished.

Completed four browser corrections:

  • #208: storage areas can be inspected from their passable center with the mouse or Enter.
  • #209: geologists use the original movement and both survey sequences, driven by actual work state.
  • #210: DAT torso tables align with their body sequences, correcting specialist and soldier clothing.
  • #212: mine suggestions prefer matching survey knowledge and warn about unqualified sites before spending goods.

Current CI passed: 366 unit tests and 500 browser steps, including the full-length battle. Normal browser play also completed a recommended surveyed coal mine and produced eight coal. One earlier rival match ended in defeat; a human-input victory is still unproved.

The game is closer to the supplied reference, with substantial work remaining. The next presentation tasks are RGB channel conversion (#213), followed by player colors and original map-slot mapping (#211). Other original systems, complete content and native application presentation remain open.

#213 and #211 are complete: original color-channel conversion now follows the supplied decoder, and settlers wear explicit player colors from separately preserved torso masks. The same identity colors appear on borders and the minimap, while old saves and replay checksums retain their meaning.

The browser passed 377 unit tests and 502 browser checks, including the full rival battle. An ordinary UI playthrough also sustained forestry and sawmill production, built housing and reached 44 settlers before saving and pausing. CI results.

The next graphics work remains under #20: replace generic shadows with original masks and continue profession/faction animation coverage. These improvements do not complete Gold gameplay/campaign parity or native presentation.

The original shadow-mask work is now scoped in #214.

Two browser rendering corrections are complete: #214 replaces the generic unit shadow with the original movable masks and source depth ordering; #216 bounds terrain-cache retention and releases retired backing stores. Both passed complete Linux CI with their retained diagnostics verified. The latest full run includes 388 unit tests and 506 browser checks across 15 suites, including the production-paced battle.

Work continues on #215 to remove terrain coverage seams. Browser playability remains first. Original Gold runtime equivalence, additional content and true native presentation remain unqualified parts of the roadmap.

Browser presentation has advanced through #213 (original channel decoding), #211 (player torso colors), #214 (original movable shadows), #216 (bounded terrain caching) and now #215 (shared-edge terrain coverage). The latest production CI passed all 16 browser suites and 510 steps, including actual 1x/2x terrain checks and a full ten minute rival battle. The retained diagnostic archive has been verified.

The game has normally adopted the verified Stacks 0.75.320 and STX 0.2.711 releases with their source corrections. The next narrow browser correction is #217 for reference continuous texture coordinates. #88 remains open for the remaining presentation work, and the broader campaign, original Gold and native qualification requirements remain unchanged.

First-execution progress, 2026-10-21:

  • All 120 tracking entries passed live read-back verification, including 119 native parent links and 239 blocker links. The publisher now also tests HomeOS platform ownership and completed-versus-not-planned blocker closure (55 subprocess assertions).
  • stx 0.2.638 is published and verified. Six package identities/integrities match the installed game dependencies. The prototype's 17 unit tests, template checks, production build, and Chrome campaign pass. Its native clock proof is a compiled JavaScript VM fixture, not native game presentation.
  • Stacks source fixes include runtime environment preservation during package transpilation and upgrade symlink/lockfile preservation. Credential relationship and key-selection fixes are under owning-source validation before publication. No installed dependency files are patched.
  • Craft 0.0.278 source CI passed. Its first release run was cancelled before verified public publication; the canonical exact-tag retry is running the full native acceptance suite at source 2d5ba22. Downstream Craft adoption and the Stacks patch release remain held for those gates.

Only S3-008 is closed as completed. The broader graphics, native host, HUD, credential/distribution, original logistics, campaigns, rights, and Gold qualification criteria remain open. Final package versions, lockfile identities, protected production verification, and consumer evidence will be added after publication.

Exact main CI 40208919317 succeeded on 85ac0f1, which remains origin/main. The original job log confirms 272 unit tests, zero failures, 22,758 assertions.

The original campaign-browser-check artifact 12604504234 is 19,659 bytes. Its SHA-256 481b25aad73ed1cad91acf0c5bb7e1137055e895aaedf5b9f6522c852275d3f4 matches GitHub's digest, every ZIP CRC passes, and every recorded assertion across 385 browser steps passes with zero console, network or collection errors. The complete normal seed-2 battle ran 610,472 ms, reached defeat, then acknowledged save and passed the seed/outcome assertions after a real reload. The archive contains diagnostics and media identities only, with no original raster upload.

This qualifies the specific source fixes and the published Stacks 0.75.310 adoption recorded in the source/publication and browser acceptance receipts. The broader roadmap remains open for human-victory coverage, all seeds, factions, religious AI, original Gold balance/timing, campaigns and complete native applications.

Published the web construction and neutral-resource corrections as 08d4eff. Exact main CI is green, and its original diagnostic artifact is verified byte-for-byte against GitHub, with all CRCs and 385 successful browser steps checked. The installed Stacks 0.75.311 cohort passes 95 original package-tree checks and seven consumer checks. Scoped issues #193, #194 and stacksjs/stacks#2994 are now closed with receipts.

A normal two-economy seed-2 match reaches a winner, while additional seeds remain unfinished. The next scoped military-policy correction is #195. Its six public-command regressions and the 289-test suite pass locally; complete current-candidate browser verification is underway. The engine still keeps every garrison's final guard, and no grants, world edits or alternate clocks are used.

The web game remains the priority. Broader military/religious AI, complete random-map acceptance, original Gold behavior/content, native presentation and finished distributions remain open. This update does not close those epics or claim original-game parity.

The city-site correction #197 is complete at ccaf4315f5301811a1848de8106136937ed937b7, normal FF origin/main push as Chris/no coauthors. Exact-main CI40234111784 succeeded. Original artifact12614458702 (19648bytes), SHA256 e93aad842ce81646a591ed969e4a5b3cfda993cff973e81736934cca1c536b5b, matches GitHub; everyZIPCRC/all385steps/empty browser error arrays verified. The committed receipt retains 296passing units, full local385step browser run and three finished sampled two-policy matches.

The subsequent quarry-budget fix #198 is pushed at 340ddc2a561354a9df8c2c246745e7e957b08ddb, with299passing units and another fresh385browsersteps including ten real minutes at4x/save/reload. Its exact-main CI40235769537 is still running, so #198 remains open. It restores real stone/metal/weapons in seed3. Ordinary two-policy seeds1/5finish34021/72501; seed2's normal continuation finishes119001, zero failed executions and clean accounting. Seed3remainsunfinished100000 despite14troops.

The matched forestry control disproved the initial permanent-deadlock hypothesis in #199: unmodified AI wins earlier than the manual work-area probe. #199 is closed as not planned; no forestry code change was made. The next reproduced military frontier is #200: all six fixed home rays explored,513unknown off-axis tiles and no scouting order at the normal100800decision. Its source fix is in progress.

This broader issue stays open. These are Roman engineering-profile browser checks, not complete AI difficulty/religion, human victory, every map seed, original Gold rules/content, or native presentation acceptance. Published Stacks311/STX691/Craft341/Pantry127 adoption remains as recorded in the95tree/sevenconsumer receipt; this app-only work changes no framework package or profile identity.
