Objective

Verify TLS 1.2/1.3, h2 and http/1.1 ALPN, SNI, mTLS, OCSP, resumption, nonblocking I/O, kTLS, abrupt peers, slow handshakes, oversized certificates, and malformed records.

Deliverables

  • Implement the complete scoped behavior without Git submodules.
  • Keep public APIs explicit about ownership, resource limits, and errors.
  • Add focused unit, integration, compatibility, fuzz, and benchmark coverage as applicable.
  • Update documentation and machine-readable compatibility status.

Acceptance criteria

  • The scoped implementation and tests are merged on main.
  • Zig formatting, focused tests, and the repository CI suite pass.
  • No unexplained compatibility skips, silent fallbacks, leaks, or unbounded hostile-input paths remain.
  • Benchmarks or security evidence is attached when this affects a hot or untrusted path.

Baselines

  • Zig 0.17-dev resolved and locked through Pantry.
  • ModSecurity 3.0.16, Coraza 3.7.0, CRS 4.28.0, and libinjection 4.0.0 where applicable.

Zig 0.17/WAF readiness slice shipped in c91ccca, 183809d, and e18fb00: current Pantry compiler pin, current formatter migration, updated build APIs, Linux CSPRNG close handling, explicit libc/PIC linkage, and successful local macOS plus x86_64-linux build/fuzz compilation. This issue remains open for the complete hostile-peer and interoperability matrix.

Implementation update: commit 0929822b781d65f91d47d2f04e15627f22a86ab7 fixes the x86_64 stitched AES-GCM partial-block counter handoff and adds a counter-boundary regression test. Native tests plus x86_64 Linux build/fuzz compilation pass locally; hosted Ubuntu and macOS CI is green: https://github.com/zig-utils/zig-tls/actions/runs/29895773128

Additional verification: the interop workflow is also green at 0929822b781d65f91d47d2f04e15627f22a86ab7, covering Ubuntu/macOS benchmark baselines, the full test suite, in-process interoperability, and fuzz-target compilation: https://github.com/zig-utils/zig-tls/actions/runs/29895773073
