Launchpad acts on what is typed into it. There is no way to act on something already selected in another app.
Selecting text, a file in Finder or a URL, then pressing a hotkey, should offer the things that can be done with it.
Scope
- A global hotkey that reads the current selection.
- Offer actions that match the kind: search the web with it, copy it, save it as a snippet, open it, reveal it, convert it, calculate it.
- Files offer the file actions; text offers the text actions; a URL offers both.
- The selection is read when the hotkey fires and held in memory only.
Notes
Needs the Accessibility permission. The action list should be the same vocabulary used elsewhere in the app so it stays predictable.
