Snippets are copied from the palette today. The palette has to be open, which rules out the case snippets are most useful for: typing in another app and wanting the expansion to happen where the cursor already is.
Typing a short keyword in any text field should replace it with the snippet.
Scope
- A per-snippet keyword, with a shared prefix or suffix so ordinary words are not swallowed.
- Expansion in any app, using the Accessibility permission the paste path already requires.
- Existing placeholders keep working:
{date},{time},{datetime},{weekday},{year},{uuid},{clipboard}. - A global switch and a per-snippet switch, both off until chosen.
- Nothing typed is recorded or stored. Matching happens in memory against the keyword list only.
Notes
Keystroke monitoring is the sensitive part. The feature needs an explicit opt-in, a clear explanation of what is observed, and no logging of any kind.
