From Chris Breuer, testing hq.training:
I should be able to swipe left and right here to get to the tabs left and right of me
A horizontal swipe should move between the tab bar's entries, the way it does in apps people compare this to. In a hybrid app it has to work across both kinds of entry, which is what makes it Craft's rather than an app's: hq.training's five tabs are four native screens and one web view, and a gesture that only worked on one kind would be worse than none.
What it would need:
- the gesture recognised on both a native screen and the web view, interactively (the next tab follows the finger rather than appearing when it lifts)
- the tab bar's selection moving with it
- the gesture yielding to a horizontally scrollable view inside the screen, the same problem as #346 — a swipe that starts on a carousel is the carousel's
- somewhere to turn it off: a screen built around a horizontal gesture of its own should be able to say so
- a selection haptic as the tab changes, which is what the app gives for every other selection
Why it is not an app-level workaround: the tab bar is Craft's, the navigation stack is Craft's, and the web view is one entry in it. An app can listen for a swipe inside its own web page, but it cannot drive the bar, it cannot animate the native screen beside it, and it cannot see a swipe that starts on a native screen at all.
Filed for a go/no-go as much as for the work — it may be that Craft would rather not own an interactive tab transition, and knowing that is worth as much as the feature.
